*** Mandatory Continuing Education Has Begun! ***
The SAMRT recognizes that advancing technology and increasing responsibility requires technologists to continually update their knowledge and skills. Continuing education ensures professional competence and prevents professional obsolescence.
Effective January 1, 2007, continuing education has become mandatory for maintaining registration with the SAMRT and thus the CAMRT. Each RT has a duty to attend, track, and report CE activity regardless of employment or registration status.
How many credits do I need?
A minimum of 5 CE credits is required per year, with a total of 30 CE credits over three consecutive years. Dues years, rather than calendar years, will be used for credit accumulation (November 1 through October 31). CE guidelines for credit accumulation may be found below, or by contacting your local CE representative.
How do I keep track of CE credits?
Personal CE forms may be obtained from the SAMRT website or from your local CE representative. Record CE sessions/activities attended and ensure that a verification signature is obtained from a co-worker or your CE rep for each activity. Give a copy of your CE record to your CE representative before November 1 of each year. Please keep your CE records for at least 3 years, as audits will take place.
Lifelong learning demonstrates accountability to both the medical community and the public. We hope that the transition to mandatory CE is as smooth as possible!
